Oscar Arevalo, DDS, ScD, MBA, MS
Dr Arevalo brings to Gators Tooth Team a strong background in academic, clinical and public health dentistry. He completed dental school at Javeriana University in Bogota, Colombia and completed post-doctoral studies at Boston University, Temple University and the University of Puerto Rico. He is dually-trained in pediatric and public health dentistry. Dr A is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Dental Public Health.
As an academician, he has held leadership positions in academic institutions including the Kornberg School of Dentistry, the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and currently at the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital - formerly known as Miami Children’s Hospital - Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program. Dr Arevalo is an active member of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Public Health Association where serves as past chair of the Oral Health Section. He has lectured nationally and internationally and published on professional peer-reviewed journals on topics including epidemiology, health disparities, delivery and financing of dental care; program evaluation; educational, training, and workforce issues; advocacy and health policy.
Dr Arevalo believes the role of the pediatric dentist goes beyond the dental office. Therefore, he is actively involved in advocacy activities at the State level, he currently serves as Chairperson of Oral Health Florida and the legislative committee of the Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr Arevalo’s programmatic activities have been funded by state and federal agencies and private foundations. He serves as an advisor for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. In his spare time Dr A enjoys reading, running and cultural activities.
